Indie MMO Spotlight: A cancelado Kickstarter e Play 2 ganham

Each week, we scour the internet for all things indie MMO-related so you don’t have to. This week, we get a lesson in play-2-earn economics, cancel a Kickstarter, and prepare for next week’s Alpha and Beta Tests. But let’s quit wasting time talking about it and get started with this week’s Indie MMO Spotlight.

Aether Story

Are you interested in seeing what it’s like to work on an indie game? Well, you can with Aether Story. Just follow phanxgames on Twitch and watch them as they write and test code during their live streams.

BitCraft

Thanks to a recent tweet, we now know that weather will have more than a visual effect in BitCraft. It will be able to damage your buildings.

Broken Ranks

Whitemoon just announced that TaernCon 2022 will be a live event. The event will be held on July 2nd in Wroclaw, Poland. You can read all about it in this news post.

Cinderstone Online

DaviDeMo (a Cinderstone programmer) stopped by the Cinderstone Discord a few days ago to let us know that even though the team isn’t the greatest at providing development updates to the community, they are still hard at work preparing for an open beta. They also mentioned they will be adding more closed beta testers, and finished off the post with an updated roadmap, which you can see below.

The Cycle: Frontier

A new dev update video landed this week. The video provides a recap of the Closed Beta 2 and included topics such as player feedback on game difficulty, gear power disparity, and how the team is dealing with cheaters.

Dual Universe

A news post this week on the Dual Universe forums gave players a status update on Dual Access Coupons (DAC), the monthly subscription tokens that were part of the original Kickstarter rewards. Judging by the forum responses, the post raised more questions than it answered.

Ask Aphelia Podcast Episode #2 was also released this week. The NQ team covered a variety of topics, including questions about the LUA API and player griefing (in a PvP game, who woulda thunk it?).

Ethyrial: Echoes of Yore

Gellyberry prematurely canceled the Ethyrial Kickstarter this week. At the time of cancelation, 65 backers had pledged $9,238, well below the goal of $63,394. The team doesn’t seem to be discouraged by this, and according to an announcement on their Discord channel, they will continue to work on the project as they look into other ways to procure funding.

Fractured Online

If you want to check out Fractured Online but don’t believe in having to purchase a Founders Pack to gain access to a Beta Test, then you’re in luck. From May 25th through May 31st, anyone can check out Fractured Online for free. And if you end up liking what you see and want to continue playing, all of your progress from the free week will carry over to a paid account. Dynamight Studios will be kicking off the event with Episode 4 of the Council of Elysium at 3:00PM EST on the gamigo Twitch channel.

Gloria Victis

Be sure to stop by the GV Steam page to check out all the changes from Weekly Update 319. There’s a new Market UI, a bit about the work being done on cross-server Valley of Death Tournaments, and the usual QoL improvements and bug fixes.

Hytale

Looks like we have another indie project to keep track of - Hytale. From the creators of the Hypixel server, Hytale will, “Embark on a journey of adventure and creativity! Hytale combines the scope of a sandbox with the depth of a roleplaying game, immersing players in a procedurally generated world where teetering towers and deep dungeons promise rich rewards. Designed with creative players in mind, Hytale’s engine supports everything from block-by-block castle construction to scripting and customization delivered using easy to use and powerful tools.”

Legends of Aria

Ever wondered exactly how a play-2-earn economy works? In a post this week, the Legends of Aria team explains how they plan to build a sustainable economy by offsetting the inflationary aspects other play-2-earn games encounter.

Life Is Feudal MMO

Did you ever wonder what happened to the Life Is Feudal MMO? Over at MassivelyOP, Chris Neal asked that exact question this week. It turns out it is still alive…sort of.
